Teaser Bets
A teaser is a multi-leg football or basketball bet where you adjust the point spread (or total) in your favor on each leg in exchange for a reduced payout.
Example — NFL
6-point 2-team teaser
Patriots -7.5 teased to Patriots -1.5 AND Bills +3 teased to Bills +9. Both adjusted spreads must cover. Standard payout: -120.
How It Works at MA Sportsbooks
Teasers are offered at every Massachusetts sportsbook in 6-point, 6.5-point, and 7-point variations for NFL and 4-, 4.5-, and 5-point for NBA. The classic "Wong teaser" strategy targets NFL favorites of -7.5 through -8.5 (teased to -1.5 through -2.5) and underdogs of +1.5 through +2.5 (teased to +7.5 through +8.5), crossing both critical numbers 3 and 7.
Pros
- Cross key numbers (3 and 7 in NFL)
- Lower variance than parlay
- Math-friendly with right legs
Cons
- Both legs must still hit
- House edge larger than singles
- Limited to football/basketball
Pro Tips
- In NFL, teasers crossing both 3 and 7 carry positive EV historically
- Avoid teasing totals — no key-number value
- Stick to 6-point 2-team teasers; longer legs erode value fast
