Futures Bets

Futures wagers are bets on outcomes that resolve weeks or months in the future — championship winners, division titles, season-long award winners, and regular-season win totals.

Example — NBA

Celtics to win NBA Championship +650

A $100 wager on the Celtics to win the NBA Finals returns $650 plus the original stake if they win the title. The bet resolves in June.

How It Works at MA Sportsbooks

All seven Massachusetts sportsbooks offer extensive futures markets across the NFL (Super Bowl, conference, division, MVP), NBA (Championship, MVP, ROY, division), MLB (World Series, MVP, Cy Young, division), and NHL (Stanley Cup, division, regular-season trophies). Win-total futures (regular-season wins for a team) are also widely offered. Most operators allow partial cash-outs as season odds shift.

Pros

  • Lock in long-shot odds early
  • Hedge opportunities as season progresses
  • Engaging season-long sweat

Cons

  • Money tied up for months
  • No early cash-out at all books
  • Injuries can ruin tickets

Pro Tips

  • Place futures early — odds shorten as the season progresses
  • Hedge on competing tickets if multiple teams stay alive
  • Win-total futures are often softer than championship futures
